When Apple unveiled iOS and iPadOS 16 in June it was a bit of a wild ride. Whilst iOS brings a ton of new features and a big overhaul to the lockscreen, iPadOS got almost no love... unless you happen to have an M1 powered iPad, in which case you finally get full multi-monitor support and overhauled multi-tasking all in the poorly-named form of 'Stage Manager'.
Okay, great. The iPad got some love. But I don't see people screaming from the rooftops about wanting multi-monitor support. Some people do, sure, but not a lot.
But those with an "old" generation iPad i.e. those on A-series chips are left out in the cold. Now whilst I don't fully accept Apple's reasons for not bring Stage Manager to other hardware (they constantly contradict themselves), we have to make our peace with that, but would it have killed them to give us a refresh of the multi-tasking screen? No. Would it have killed them to bring us the new and revised lockscreen that the iPhones are getting? No.
It seems the the iPad is destined to lack behind the iPhone in feature parity by about 12 months. So here's looking forward to iOS 17 so I can have widgets on my iPad Lockscreen.
